HHV
Last term, the whole senior side visited the, 'Howick Historical Village'
We learnt and saw amazing things, and realized how lucky we were to
have machines, unlike what they had, but as we learnt how they worked
things, back in the day, we thought it was very cool.

Hi, this term we're learning the topic, 'Bearing' for maths. I've gathered together a map and written four mysteries for a buddy to solve. Let's see if my buddy has completed, and has done it right.
Move the axe NE from Cannibal Cove
Move the pirate ship SW from Indian Camp
Move the skull NW from Mermaid Lagoon
Move the treasure chest SE from Skull Rock

As you see, my friend Laina has completed my work. If you see anything wrong, make a comment, and I’ll reply:)

Quotation Marks 120619
Today we are learning how to use dialogue.
In dialogue we use speech marks.
Speech marks are used to show that someone is talking.
Basically how to use speech marks is pretty simple. All you do is, write down 66,
and 99 at the beginning and end of your sentences, but always remember after your 66, comes a capital letter, and before a 99 comes a full stop or a question mark. It's good to test yourself to see how much of it you know. Today, my teacher set a quiz about quotation marks, and my results were:
10✓!1

Math
Today in math, I learnt how to divide in algorithm. At first, I didn't understand easily, but as we did it over again, I started to pick it up. I'd have to admit, I did think that the world would complicate, from string to string, but as I got use to it, I found it easy.
In case you don't know what long division is, I've inserted a video to explain:

A Wedge at work
As the wedge moves, from angle to angle, it explains what it is, and how
it looks.
As you can see, the wedge, and wood placed together, also looks likes an
axe. They're both used to;
- Chop things into half or bits
- Firewood.....
And loads of other things,.
A wedge is a simple machine, used to lift, or break things apart.
Simple machines are very useful to people, and very simple to use,
that's how they got their name.
A simple machine is also known as an:
- Incline Plane
- Pulley
- Screw
- Lever
- Wheel & Axle
- Wedge
- And more
Thank you for reading my brief information on what I've wrote. Hopefully I've taught you what, and how a simple machine works. If not click on the word information below:
Comment down below how it went!!

Vector
Vector
Vector is a company that helps children of any sizes and shapes keep safe, away from powerlines. Power lines are kept inside poles covered with rubber, not allowing the cords near the human body.
But that doesn't mean it's still safe to swing, sit or jump on transmitters, transformers or power poles. It's still dangerous for us to even go near them.
There once was a boy, who loved climbing trees.
One day, he saw a tree next to a power pole, and on that power pole was a platform with a transmitter above it.
The next day, he saw it was gone so, he climbed the tree and hopped onto the flatform. After, he screamed "YEAH!" as loud as he could to celebrate his victory. He didn't know what power safety was, but his hands were to high, high enough to get electrocuted. So when he was, he fell to the floor.

Now the good thing was that he survived, but that is how powerful open wires can be. Even chargers, can harm you.
That's why Vector's here. To help keep us safe.

Speech Marks
Today I took a quiz that shows how good I am using quotation marks. It's been a challenge, but I've managed to get 10/10 in my results. Here is proof:

Vector
On the 24th of August, we went in our school hall to meet a wonderful lady named, 'Esther'
As she introduced herself, she said that she worked for Vector.
During time, she informed us not to touch power lines, broken cables, smaller transformers or transmitters, because of the consequences it holds.
When there's a broken cable, the wires are able for you to touch, which leads to electric shot's
and pain. That's why Vector is here, to help people before something bad happens.
What I learnt from 'Vector':
- Warn others to not touch, or sit on transmitters, transformers, or other dangerous things
- Don't get toast out by fork.
- Throw away broken cables
- Help our community

The Zoo Trip
On the 7th of August at 9:30, rooms 6, 10, 11 and 12, left school for an exciting trip to the Zoo. We traveled by bus, and as we arrived to the Auckland Zoo, we met a lady named, ‘Kirsty’ As she introduced herself, she explained a little about what we’re going to see, and how to be with them.
As we hopped off the bus, Kirsty took us to a few men called, ‘Frazer, and John.’ As they were saying how many animals there were, and how cool it was, they suspiciously said,
“ The more quiet you stay, the more animals you see.” And as we stayed quiet while he was talking, it was actually a distraction, so we could see the meaning of what he said. Then he quietly whispered,
“ Now that you all are quiet, you haven’t noticed what has crossed behind you.” As we turned around, we saw a stunning peacock with it’s brightly coloured feathers.
Next, we saw Kirsty saying, “ Hey guys, I’m going to take you to the lizards and all the reptiles.
We were supposed to eat first, but we were to fascinated, so we went straight ahead.
As we arrived, Kirsty told us that reptiles can camouflage really good with their natural habitat, and she gave us a challenge. It was to find three different types of lizards to spot. I found a tuatara, gecko and a bearded dragon.
A few hours later after we’ve seen a lot of animals, we had lunch.
During lunch we arrived at the hippo’s river. Surprisingly, we saw nothing. We were now told that they’ve got sick and died. It started from the little baby, at 2 or 3 years old I think, and carried on to the mother, then father. Next we saw the alligator. It was big, but thin, scally, and strong.
Further down we went to have a rest after all the wandering around.
We all went to the park and had a little rest and chat. Children went
playing at the park. Unlike the others John, Joedzy, Javarn, Sosaia and I, just sat under a tree, talking but relaxing.
Lastly it was time to go home, but before that, we had to take a photo:
I had a lovely time at the Auckland Zoo, hopefully, we go again!

Halloween
Should halloween be banned in New Zealand ? Well in my opinion it shouldn't, kids have too much fun. In this speech I’ll will be explaining all the great outcomes of celebrating halloween.
I believe that halloween should be in NZ because it gives kids, an opportunity to celebrate a historical traditional while kids have a lot fun. Most children power up their brain by being creative, and creating their costumes. While exploring you might end up having a great adventure and meeting new friends. Did you know that 93% of children participate in halloween, also known as trick a treat each year? The majority of the statistics prove that most children enjoy the halloween spirit.
In conclusion we hope you understand that point of view of my state of argument. I as an a New Zealand kid love halloween, and strongly believe that it should remain part of New Zealand’s holiday culture.
