Birds 121119

Jasmine Tokoa Tuesday 12 Novmeber 2019

She had spent so long with only the birds for company.
Mesmerised by their beauty,
Sarah would gaze at them for hours on end,
in awe of their weightlessness as they fluttered their wings
and rose up; free from the confines of the cage.
Perhaps it was because she had watched them so carefully.
Perhaps it was because she had wished hard to be
as free as they looked when she opened the catch on
#their tiny prison door. When they crouched their legs,
pushing their bodies into the sky each face was lifted.
The wings fled through the warm wind as the air ran
through their fluffy feathers. With the wind in their faces,
the cool breeze felt perfect on a hot, sunny day.
The water glistened, and other types of birds chirped.
The sun shone bright, and the trees danced from side to side.
Sarah stops to see them landing for a drink at the nearest river,
the water looked cool and fresh. It wasn’t just an ordinary water,
they happened to mistakenly drink poisoned water.
The water contains a powerful yet toxic poison.
This poison spread throughout the body fast,
and had a major impact on the birds.
They soon realized they couldn’t fly, or even stand up properly.
They immediately screamed for help.
No one cared enough to help,
30 minutes later they were still screaming for help.
Then suddenly someone heard screaming and
thought it was nothing. But the screaming continued.
