Matariki 050719

Friday 05 July 2019
Recount: Matariki Lights

WALT - write a recount
Success Criteria: To be successful I must:
  • Describe the event in sequence
  • Use past tense
  • Try focus on one main idea
  • Inform when, where, who, and what happened.

On a simple Friday night, my friends and I went to see the Matariki lights.
On our way, we each spoke of how excited we were,
and how colourful it would be. This event was located on Taniwha Street.

Before we even got there, I wondered to myself what it all stood for,
what the value for the Matariki lights were.
Standing next to me was Sharhera, I was so eager to find out,
that it just blurbed out of my mouth.
She was first shocked and confused, but eventually told me it’s value.
She informed that Matariki is an anual celebration.
It serves the purpose of the Maori new year,
and the lights are only a small part of the occasion.

There were five of us in total, and as we arrived,
we first made our way to the entrance.
There were multiple colours which reflected off the disco globe,
and sparkled everywhere. I was so amazed and astound by the colours,
that I wasn’t ready to go on, and insisted we stay at least a tiny bit longer.
Sooner or later, it was finally enough,
and we were able to carry on with the tour.

We then took a brief stroll leading us to more and more lights.
I mean it could not have gotten any better!
Surrounding us, were decorations with all types of shapes and sizes.
Comming towards the bridge, was a waterfall.
The waterfall was moving in a way, like it was an automatic GIF.
Beautiful bright lights were all around us, and as soon as you know it,
that was the end of the tour. It went past all too quickly,
and we couldn’t resist to go around once or twice more.

In Conclusion, it got to a time where we were exhausted enough to go home.
Thank you.
