Assessment: Plants 040719

Assessment: Plants
(Recap):  For this term, our topic for inquiry are plants.
It also happens to be the topic for my writing assessment test... Enjoy:

What do you know about plants?
I know there are 391,000 plant species in total,
and firmly believe that each and every one of them
serves a special purpose to this earth. My question is,
“What kind of purposes?”  or,
“What causes them to be unique?”
Well, plants can be a small thing,
but play a vital role on the planet.
The most basic fact about plants I know,
is although humans inhale oxygen,
and exhale CO2 (carbon dioxide), for plants, it’s the inverse.

Parts of a plant.
All plants have male and female parts, in this case,
the stamens are known for the male parts of a plant.
The ovule, stomata, stigma and pistil are well known
for being the female parts.
The stem is the long thin tube connected to the flower of a plant,
or the base of the leaves. Roots also play a crucial character in a plant,
as it holds it down, making sure it doesn’t fly around.

Looking at a plant, have you ever wondered what goes on inside?
Things such as seed reproduction, pollination,
or photosynthesis all take place inside a plant, regardless of the size.
However, from the outside of a plant,
looks very different compared to the inside,
like it’s colour or figure.
I find intresting that a plant is only  green due to the chloroplast,
also known as food producers which are only found in plants.
Chloroplast is located in the leaf; where photosynthesis takes place.

Plants are very unique in different ways, how?
For one reason, is the fact that they are able to make their own food,
in the process of photosynthesis.
Photosynthesis is the act of plants producing food for  their need.
It is a chemical reaction managed in the leaves of a plant.
In order for photosynthesis to function, it needs carbon dioxide,
water and sunlight for it to take place.

Seed dispersal is a system which is operated to transport
seeds from place to place.
Like photosynthesis,  seed dispersal also uses water
as one of it’s advantages.
The four main methods are through the flow of the river, grip of the wind,
by animal or insect, and by explosion; fire.
These strategies may take time however, it does the job.

What is pollination, pollination is the act of moving the pollen grains,
from the stamen to the female stigma.
The goal of every living organism, including plants,
is to create offspring for the next generation.
One of the ways that plants can produce offspring is by making seeds.

In Conclusion, I think plants are unique and special to the world,
due to their usefull features us humans need.
Whenever you see a plant, big or small,
have in mind the great things they do for us,
including the gift of oxygen.
I strongly believe that each human on this earth,
should contribute in caring for our plants, just like they benefit us.

Geometry 020719

Geometry

In June, my class covered the basics of geometry:
WALT:
Create a DLO about geometry to teach others about it.
Success Criteria:
- Use a presentation
- Explain different kinds of lines.
- Watch videos to get more ideas about geometry.
- Make sure you understand how the lines work.
A Point:
A point is one of the most basic figures in geometry.
Notice that a point is usually labelled with a capital letter.
For example:
  • A
  • X
  • y
Line segment
A line has to endpoints. Unlinke a ray, they both end at a certain time.
For example, segment A and B. This segment can also be represented as:

or :

Line:
A line is defined as a straight path between points that extends forever in both directions. Line XY can also be represented XY with a line over it.

Ray:
A ray only has one endpoint, meaning the other goes on forever. The first letter in any ray represents the endpoint. The next letter, represents which direction the arrow heads. A ray can also be shown is two different ways.

Parts of a Plant and their Function

Up above, I have slide show which explain the parts of a plant and their function.

Pollination 300419

Here, I have a project multiple students put togather,
based on pollination.
It explains the definition, explains how,
the four steps,
process and different types of pollination:

Date: Thursday 30 May 2019
Title: Pollination
Name: Jasmine, Sarone, Tama, Lj, Sale

CONTENT:
Sarone- What is pollination
Lj- How pollination works
Sale - The four steps of pollination
Tama-What is the process of pollination
Jasmine- Different types of pollination

Sarone: What is Pollination?
What is pollination,
pollination is the act of moving the pollen grains,
from the male to anther of a flower to the female stigma.
The goal of every living organism, including plants,
is to create offspring for the next generation.
One of the ways that plants can produce offspring
is by making seeds.

Sale: How pollination works:
Plants have men parts called stamens that produce
a sticky powder called pollen. Plants also have
beautiful lady parts called the pistil.
To be pollinated, pollen must be moved
from a stamen to the stigma.
When pollen from a plant's stamen is transferred,
to that same plants stigma it’s called self pollination.

LJ: The 5 Steps of Pollination
Pollination In general, a man gametes are contained
in the pollen, which is carried by the wind, water,
or wildlife both insects and animals,
to reach women gametes. The body part is the stigma
mend that the male body part is the stamens.

Tama: What is the Process of pollination?
Pollination is the process by which pollen is transferred
to the female reproductive organs of a plant,
thereby enabling fertilization to take place.
The plant pollination process describes the vital
method of sexual reproduction in plants.
It enables a plant to bear fruit and seeds,
many of which are not only eaten by humans,
but also by other living species from birds
to mammals. Birds and mammals may then
distribute those seeds to new geographical
locations through their droppings.

Jasmine: The different types of pollination:
There are different varieties of pollination,
which includes the two main pollination sets.
The first, is self pollination, secondly,  is cross pollination.
Cross pollination would also interact with another flower,
or include a flower whilst it would take place when pollen grains fall directly onto the stigma.
