Birds 121119

Jasmine Tokoa Tuesday 12 Novmeber 2019

She had spent so long with only the birds for company.
Mesmerised by their beauty,
Sarah would gaze at them for hours on end,
in awe of their weightlessness as they fluttered their wings
and rose up; free from the confines of the cage.
Perhaps it was because she had watched them so carefully.
Perhaps it was because she had wished hard to be
as free as they looked when she opened the catch on
#their tiny prison door. When they crouched their legs,
pushing their bodies into the sky each face was lifted.
The wings fled through the warm wind as the air ran
through their fluffy feathers. With the wind in their faces,
the cool breeze felt perfect on a hot, sunny day.
The water glistened, and other types of birds chirped.
The sun shone bright, and the trees danced from side to side.
Sarah stops to see them landing for a drink at the nearest river,
the water looked cool and fresh. It wasn’t just an ordinary water,
they happened to mistakenly drink poisoned water.
The water contains a powerful yet toxic poison.
This poison spread throughout the body fast,
and had a major impact on the birds.
They soon realized they couldn’t fly, or even stand up properly.
They immediately screamed for help.
No one cared enough to help,
30 minutes later they were still screaming for help.
Then suddenly someone heard screaming and
thought it was nothing. But the screaming continued.

River Talks 071119

Omaru Creek. The reserve is an opened space.
Back in the day,
children found it as a special place to play, a spot to laugh,
or hang with friends. Over the time,
those specials moments slowly became memories.
Children hardly come out to play, or walk using this space.
Little kids find Omaru Creek boring,
they find the reserve as a waste of space.

Tamati and the council refuse to sit and watch
their childhood memories fade away.
At the river talks we can learn how to take care of our reserve.
We could learn to change things around,
and create a park using this space.
What a good idea! Right?
I believe Eastview Reserve deserves better, and we could do so much more!

Hockey 010819

Thursday 01 August 2019
Recap: My class wrote a brief script based on hockey.
In this text, I wrote about why so many people love this specific sport,
as well as what players mainly do during the game.

Have you ever looked at a simple game of hockey,
and pondered about how fast the ball can get from one spot to another? It’s facinating of how quickly the ball moves,
as the players pass from one person, to another.
At times, you can see the laughter the team members share,
as they try block their oppenents from the ball.
For this reason, is why so much fans support this sport.

Hockey is a team sport, where everyone discusses which skills to use,
and how to do specific things. They prepare certain strategies and use
that as an advantage of a way to score another goal.

Hockey is divided by two main purposes, to  attack, or defend.
The attackers job is to move up,
and efficiently abduct the ball from the other team.
They then try pass it along, as the ball gets closer to the goal,
and shoot for a point. However, a defenders role in the game rather
drops back,
and patiently waits in case of any unexpected causes in the game,
such as the other team stealing the ball.

Like most sports, the team with the most points win.
For me, its all about skill, and technique, but for others it could be
about speed and reflexes.
What techniques would you use in a game of hockey for your team to win?

Painting 150819

Thursday 15 August 2019
Painting

The second I entered the room, vibrate colours filled my eyes. I walked up, and sat on a chair oppisite a clear, white cavas. I wandered what to draw, to design a portrait of someone, or to simply represent a building or thing. On my left was a six packet paint rack, with such a think paint consistency, and bright colours. As I gently picked up my brush, and dipped it deep into a bright maroon. I smoothly drifted the brush across the canvas, and painted freely. Without a clue or doubt, I continued randomly painting, visualizing, on what my odd painting would become.

Six Sentence Story - The Cheerful Girl 230719

Tuesday 23 July 2019

Once upon a time, there lived a cheerful girl at the age of ten.
She and her family happily lived on a farm, where everyday
would be so peaceful. Her name was Ana, and she enjoyed
lifting the frowns from those who were sad.
One day at school, there was a child who cryed and cryed.
She couldn’t resist helping him, and volenteered to take care,
and cheer him up.
After a while, he eventually opened up to her and they
became good friends.

Assessment: Plants 040719

Thursday 04 July 2019
Assessment: Plants
(Recap):  For this term, our topic for inquiry are plants.
It also happens to be the topic for my writing assessment test... Enjoy:

What do you know about plants?
I know there are 391,000 plant species in total,
and firmly believe that each and every one of them
serves a special purpose to this earth. My question is,
“What kind of purposes?”  or,
“What causes them to be unique?”
Well, plants can be a small thing,
but play a vital role on the planet.
The most basic fact about plants I know,
is although humans inhale oxygen,
and exhale CO2 (carbon dioxide), for plants, it’s the inverse.

Parts of a plant.
All plants have male and female parts, in this case,
the stamens are known for the male parts of a plant.
The ovule, stomata, stigma and pistil are well known
for being the female parts.
The stem is the long thin tube connected to the flower of a plant,
or the base of the leaves. Roots also play a crucial character in a plant,
as it holds it down, making sure it doesn’t fly around.

Looking at a plant, have you ever wondered what goes on inside?
Things such as seed reproduction, pollination,
or photosynthesis all take place inside a plant, regardless of the size.
However, from the outside of a plant,
looks very different compared to the inside,
like it’s colour or figure.
I find intresting that a plant is only  green due to the chloroplast,
also known as food producers which are only found in plants.
Chloroplast is located in the leaf; where photosynthesis takes place.

Plants are very unique in different ways, how?
For one reason, is the fact that they are able to make their own food,
in the process of photosynthesis.
Photosynthesis is the act of plants producing food for  their need.
It is a chemical reaction managed in the leaves of a plant.
In order for photosynthesis to function, it needs carbon dioxide,
water and sunlight for it to take place.

Seed dispersal is a system which is operated to transport
seeds from place to place.
Like photosynthesis,  seed dispersal also uses water
as one of it’s advantages.
The four main methods are through the flow of the river, grip of the wind,
by animal or insect, and by explosion; fire.
These strategies may take time however, it does the job.

What is pollination, pollination is the act of moving the pollen grains,
from the stamen to the female stigma.
The goal of every living organism, including plants,
is to create offspring for the next generation.
One of the ways that plants can produce offspring is by making seeds.

In Conclusion, I think plants are unique and special to the world,
due to their usefull features us humans need.
Whenever you see a plant, big or small,
have in mind the great things they do for us,
including the gift of oxygen.
I strongly believe that each human on this earth,
should contribute in caring for our plants, just like they benefit us.

Why Should Teachers Get a Pay Rise?

Should Teachers Have a Pay Rise?

Why Should Teachers Have a Pay Rise?
I firmly believe teachers should get a pay rise.
The government as we know has been dodging this vital situation for a while,
and seemed to have no problem ignoring it.
Teachers have been on strike twice this year due to their pay.
The most recent, Wednesday 30 of May, was more colossal and intense,
rather than the other times they’ve been on strike.

My very first reason to why teachers should have a pay rise,
is due to their work load.
The effort teachers include in their work is impeccable.
Could you manage?
They set tests, assesments, work and more daily.
How do they keep up? It’s almost impossible,
and the amount of pay they get is merely enough.

Secondly, have you noticed they basically play in two lives.
Their teaching life, and an ordinary, everyday life with family.
They take their time from when they’re on holiday,
or on release to build more work for the students education.
Teachers include many, many effort, and at times wonder if it’s worth it.
Does this in anyway make you wonder if they should have a pay rise?
Frankly, I’m very thankful.

Us students look at the teacher as an ordinary person,
that forces knowledge into our brains everyday.
What about them? Students cause them to stress daily!
And put more and more pressure on their shoulders.
We need to comfort them, relax their ears from your voices.
To calm their minds with more students which pay attention.
After this teacher, there will be no teacher.
Who will then teach us about education?
And it’s all our fault.

In conclusion, I encourage all students, teachers,
parents and guardians to help inform the government,
and persuade them for teachers to get a new pay rise.
The question is not,
“What can the government do about this?”  but,
“How can the government advance this strong impact going on in Auckland New Zealand?”
Without teachers, the next generation would become completely mindless,
having no knowledge.
How would you want your child to grow up? Living on the streets?
Don’t help because of the teachers, help for your children, the future. Thank you.

Language Features 2019

Can you identify the persuasive
language features in this text?

Fellow students, have you ever felt
afraid to walk around the school by yourself?
In a recent survey carried out by the school council,
70 percent of us have been bullied at some time in our life at school.
The bullies are vicious, violent and vindictive .
Unfortunately, they are getting away with it.
Can this be fair?
We, the victims, are afraid of wearing the wrong trainers.
We are afraid of being too smart or too stupid.
We are afraid  of anything that might draw attention to ourselves.
The time has come for the fear to stop.
The bullies terrify other students, and yet they are cowards   themselves.
If we pull together we can fight this fear. Join me and fight this fear 8 today.
